While Racial Injustice is a prevelant issue within our society creating a dialog for such injustices is also frowned upon. As you can see in the clip above Jesse Williams attepted to use his fame to create that dialog in refrence to the horrible shooting of 12 year old Tamir Rice however he was met with backlash and controversy. In the clip they list alot of statistics o further bring into the picture that these injustices exist. Floyd Weatherspoon states this harsh reality in his book “African-American Males and the US Justice System of Marginalization”. He states “African-American males have a lower life expectancy than all other groups, are disproportionately suspended and expelled from school, have the highest dropout rate in elementary and secondary school, and have one of the highest rates of unemployment”. While these statistics are alarming and eye-opening noting has been done in an attempt to fix this issue. With the evidence presented it is evident that there is a correlation between race and treatment within our justice system. There has been very little legal discourse, scholarship, or response from the legal community to address these issues. With one issue being the most dangerous of all, Racial Profiling. People are profiled daily without any idea that they may be none the wiser. African American males are widely disproportionately targeted, stopped, and searched by law enforcement officials based on race and gender. This has become such an issue that the term “Driving while Black” was created and coined as term to describe this plight that individuals have gone through. Floyd Weatherspoon states “Racial profiling has been institutionalized into our American justice system, as well as other systems that disproportionately exclude, punish, and ostracize African American males”. This has definitely succeeded in terms of looking at statistics of incardination by race in which one would see that African Americans account for a high percentage of criminals. The stats showing prominent African American males in custody, even though being a smaller population begins to make more sense with racial profiling being involved. Of course you will see a large amount of felonies within the African American community when they are the only ones being stakes out or targeted for suspicion
